Its quite strange, how a very interesting and wonderful game of football, could quickly also turn into a nightmare you’d never want to remember for the rest of your life. Such was the case of perpetrators Son Heung-Min and Aurier of Tottenham and,the victim,Andres Gomes of Everton.
The Portuguese and Everton midfielder, suffered a very a very horrific injury to the leg, during Sunday’s EPL 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur.
The Portugal international was tackled by Son Heung-min,before landing awkwardly and falling into Serge Aurier. Son eventually earned himself a red-card but,the damage was already done to the victim,Gomes.
The South Korean was shown a straight red and was immediately reduced to tears after seeing the damage his challenge had caused the midfielder.
Tottenham and Everton players were left distressed by the incident as Gomes needed immediate medical attention.
However,he was quickly hurried out of the pitch, for further emergency treatment. His removal from the pitch was followed by a show of encouragement and motivation by the fans at the Goodison Park ,as they stood-up and clapped for him,as he was stretched-out of the field of play.
Several players began to panic when they caught a gory glimpse of his ankle, which was twisted 90 degrees to the right from its normal position.
Everton wrote in a statement: “Everton Football Club can confirm Andre Gomes will undergo surgery tomorrow (Monday, November 4) after sustaining an ankle injury in today’s game with Tottenham Hotspur.
“The Portugal international was stretchered from the pitch during the second half of the game and taken straight to Aintree Hospital by ambulance accompanied by members of the Everton medical team. After undergoing hospital tests, it was confirmed he had suffered a fracture dislocation to his right ankle.
Furthermore,in times past, the English Premier League has played host to several intricacies and anomalies in form of injuries. In the distant past,Arsenal duo of Eduardo da Silva and Aaron Ramsey, suffered serious career-threatening injuries to their legs.
Peter Cech, during his stint as the goalie of Chelsea,is also not left out in this category,as he himself was perpetually placed on a head-helmet,after a very disastrous injury to the head, against Reading United.
Also,Jibril Cisse of Liverpool had a taste of death, when his leg almost broke into two.
No doubt,Andres Gomes would be out for a very long while and,as it stands, the world would be eagerly waiting,to get an update regarding the length and duration of his injury.
