Manchester United -1 vs 1-Liverpool : No Victor;No Vanquished

After another epic round of North West Derby on Sunday, between bitter rivals Manchester United and Liverpool,we were yet again, thrilled to another classic game that ended in a stalemate at Old Trafford. This automatically brought an end,to Liverpool’s winning streak in the EPL.

Liverpool, who hitherto, had a 100% start record to the English Premier League, were considered favorites ahead of the game, against a Red Devils side, that has been going through very rough periods since the start of the season. Nevertheless, the United were able to salvage a point from the encounter.

Both teams began the encounter on a high note,as we saw a United side without ace midfielder Paul Pogba, try to put pressure on the Liverpool side with their counter attacking style of play by manager Ole Gunner Solskjaer. The likes of Daniel James and Andreas Pereira gave the Liverpool side a run  for their money at the first half of the game. Though,Liverpool had various chance at goal but, were gladly denied by United’s goalkeeper,David De Gea.

Eventually,United got the ball into the back of the net when,in the 36th minute,a cross came in from Daniel James after a blistering run which saw him set-up Marcus Rashford for the goal. Liverpool also pulled one back courtesy of Sadio Mane but,was disqualified by VAR after a hand ball was spotted against Mane.

Furthermore,Liverpool came back into the 2nd half more determined than the first, and pressured Man Utd for an equalizer, which did not come until the 85th minute,when a cross by Andy Robertson into the 18yrd box,was dispatched into the net by substitute Adam Lallana. The game eventually ended in a 1-1 draw.

Speaking to journalists after the game,Klopp said : “Man United had the momentum in the first half because they were purely there to defend us.

“It is just a point. Since I am in England,Man United always played like this. We could do better and we will be better in the future but now,we have to take it like it is.

“Everyone builds it up like a mountain but only one team has to defend and the other team has to make the game. It is not the feeling that we won something today- it is just a point”.

On the part of the Manchester United, manager Solskjaer said: “We set the team up to attack and to be aggressive and create chances and I thought we did that.

Today,I felt just before they scored we had two or three great opportunities to counter-attack. We soaked up the pressure well until they scored but we did not create enough ourselves,so that is the next level as well as these boys.

“But I am dead pleased with the boys, they got the crowd going and the crowd got them going, and it was a proper game of football. It is not often I have said it out there that we can praise the referees but he played it as a game should be – he played it like a derby,he let things go and that passion on the pitch,he allowed to go and went to the stands as well”.
