In a tie that has been dubbed as probably one of the most fascinating of the decade, the Super Eagles of Nigeria under Gernot Rohr, will take on the Selecao of Brazil in a mouth watering friendly encounter. The match between the two giants will take place on the 13th of October,1pm Nigerian time at the Singapore National Stadium.

This decision is coming after a resolution reached by the Brazilian National Technical Commission,to play against the top 50 national teams on the FIFA ranking whenever possible. On the choice of the Super Eagles and the Senegalese National team as worthy opponents among the FIFA ranking teams, the coordinator of the team,Juninho Paulista had this to say:

“We chose two of the best African teams because they are high-level confrontations and against a school that the Brazilian National Team had few encounters in recent years. It was a wish of the Technical Commission,so we went after these opponents”.

It should be recalled that the last meeting between the two sides was at the inauguration ceremony of the Abuja National Stadium in the year 2003,where the Selecao defeated the Super Eagle in a comfortable 3-nil victory. An encounter which saw strikers Luis Fabiano,Gil and,Adriano with goals.

Furthermore, the Nigerian Technical Adviser and Head Coach,Gernot Rohr admitted that the upcoming clash against the Selecao of Brazil, would not only serve as a very good test for the Super Eagles of Nigeria with regards to the upcoming continental qualifiers against Benin Republic and Lesotho, but also aid in the improvement of his side’s rating in the monthly FIFA-Coca Cola rankings .In his words,he said:

“We are happy about this particular match coming up against Brazil, even if they are not an African team that we are going to play in the 2021 AFCON qualifiers.Of course, its Brazil and as such, its a big match for us to be played far away in Singapore, and I hope we can have more than two good training sessions before the match, like we had before the match against Ukraine”.

Rohr further stated that: “It would be very important for us to train hard for this match because we have to make a very good game against one of the best teams in the world because a good result will improve our rankings in the world. This is going to be a wonderful match for us to play and I hope all our injured players would be available for the match because it’s a very big match”.

In another development, players from both sides have been talking tough on the coming encounter. The Super Eagle and Villarreal wonder kid,Samuel Chukwueze made it known that the encounter would be short of a friendly one.In his words:

“That’s a big game to look forward to in Singapore and I think its going to be a tough match.I don’t know if it’s going to be but I‘m confident we are going to make our country proud because everybody is going to look forward to this game.”

He also added: “It’s going to be a tough game but everybody would see what we are made of when we play against Brazil.I believe this set of Super Eagles is very good;it’s not just that we are good but we are committed. We have the fighting spirit to do everything possible to remain one of the best teams in the world and I think we are going to do well against Brazil”

Also,Brazil and Paris Saint-Germain’s ace defender Marquinhos, has stressed the importance of defeating the Super Eagles and the Teranga Lions at the upcoming friendlies,as he views them not just as average teams but, continental powers. When asked by reporters to comment on the two African teams,at a conference on Monday, the defender said:

“I know a lot and know their qualities.Senegal is runner-up of the Africa Cup,a very intense and difficult team.We have to make a big game, impose our rhythm. They are very intense opponents, aggressive, with physical imposition and technical game too.We see great players playing in the major European Leagues, many of them in France”.

The Super Eagles are expected to arrive camp today Wednesday, October 9,in preparation for the clash, while the Selecao held their first training session in Singapore on Monday October 7.Some of the Brazilian players noted to have arrived camp includes Neymar,Lucas Paqueta(AC Milan),Casemiro,Eder Militao(both Real Madrid),Roberto Firmino and,Fabinho(both Liverpool).
